Climatological data including climate scenarios for climate change mitigation of Tyrolian forests
Abstract
Climate change poses great challenges to the entire natural area management and requires appropriate responses in order to be able to plan and manage in the long term. Therefore, climate indicators for the province of Tyrol are compiled for the past time period (1991-2020) as well as for 2 selected climate scenarios (2036-2065 and 2071-2100). The final data will be provided in the form of about 15 to 20 climate indicators (for example, growing degree days, precipitation totals, number of frost days) at a target resolution of 10x10 m. One focus of the project is the development of methods for the spatial distribution of foehn events, which are usually accompanied by high temperatures, high wind speeds and low humidity. The spatial and temporal changes of foehn weather patterns in the course of climate change will be analyzed. The high spatial resolution of the climate indicators provides new information about the small-scale climatic variability in Tyrol.
