Fishecological Monitoring at Alte Donau in 2021
Abstract
Fish ecological studies in the Alte Donau show a declining trend in abundance in recent years, especially in the open water area. This decline is mainly reflected in the use of the net fishing method. However, electrofishing carried out at the same time, where especially the riparian areas of the basin were checked, could not confirm this trend. In order to continue the long-term data series, fishing will again be carried out using net equipment in the 2021/2022 monitoring. In this way, the abundance of the typical Alte Donau fish species will be further observed and the condition of the overall ecosystem monitored. Parallel to the net fishing, the data collection will also be continued selectively by means of electrofishing. In order to evaluate possible influences on the reduction of fish stocks by reducing submerged aquatic plant populations, fish eggs are specifically searched for on macrophytes. For this purpose, a method with diving and collection of fish clutches is being established for the first time.
