Impact of climate change on event-triggering precipitation of torrent disasters
Abstract
Torrent processes (derbis flows, floods and bedload transport) pose a considerable threat in the Alpine region. To date, there is no quantitative statement for Austria on possible changes due to ongoing climate change, which complicates the elaboration of adaptation strategies. The aim of the project proposed here is to identify critical precipitation events, to estimate the change in their probability of occurrence and to evaluate the need for adaptation strategies. For this purpose, existing data on event-triggering precipitation will be compiled and then statistically analyzed and intersected with regional climate projections.
