Regional resilience based on ecological, economic and social knowledge and innovation in the Ötscher region - Subproject spatial planning
Abstract
This project addresses the challenges of transformative change, which aims at a fundamental shift that challenges values and routine practices and changes the previous perspective used to rationalize choices and pathways. For our research, we selected a region in Austria where climate change, land use change, and societal and structural problems together require significant change based on holistic analyses and awareness of interconnected challenges in a social-ecological system. The selected study area is located south of the Ötscher in Lower Austria. Based on a literature review, we will use the concept of resilience as a framework to address and better understand the complex challenges faced by local communities. The project will develop a framework tailored for application at the regional level. To operationalize resilience in an inter- and transdisciplinary manner, we will apply a conceptual framework that combines social-ecological systems (SES) and dynamic adaptive pathways (DAP) to demonstrate that resilience thinking can form the basis for an applicable, forward-looking regional development approach. Finally, the use of a representative survey in the region will facilitate the implementation process in the region and contribute to innovative research results.
