The capacity of pollutant retention of intact slurry walls and the effect of contamination during the process of their construction.
Abstract
Slurry walls are the method frequently used to secure landfills and contaminated sites nowadays. Encapsulation of problem sites is an effective way to avoid dangerous emissions to environment. The capacity of pollutant retention of intact slurry walls will be investigated through long-term percolations- and diffusion-tests. Very often slurry walls are built under present contamination of subsoil. To test the influence of contamination during the process of their construction, slurry wall suspensions will be mixed with different concentrations and typs of leakage water. The effect on characteristics of the fresh slurry wall suspensions (liquid limit, marsh-viscosity, fluid-loss) and the effect in their rigidity and setting behaviour will be lab-examinated. Furtheron tests of the hardened slurry wall masses concerning unaxial crushing strength and permeability will be carried out.
