Monitoring and analysis of bedload transport at the TIWAG measuring stations (Sölden-Schmiedhofbrücke on the Ötztaler Ache, Gries-Mühlau on the Fischbach and Mutterbergalm on the Ruetz)
Abstract
The planned GET_IWA project is a research co-operation between BOKU and TIWAG, in which the extensive experience of both project partners in the field of sediment monitoring will be incorporated. Our aim is to take the monitoring of sediment transport in rivers to the next level in order to enable effective measures in river engineering and flood protection. The focus is on the collection of comprehensive data describing the sediment balance in order to better understand the effects on river morphology and ecological status. Sediment transport is continuously recorded using geophone systems and suspended sediment sensors. The project includes the maintenance and renewal of measuring stations as well as the comprehensive analysis and evaluation of the collected data. The aim of this work is to gain a comprehensive understanding of sediment dynamics and, on this basis, to develop measures to optimise sediment transport! This should improve long-term flood protection and maintain the ecological health of watercourses.
