Round small diameter timber for constructions.
Abstract
The project aims to find new markets for small diameter roundwood (diameter 8-15 cm). In favour of forest owners especially wood from thinnings should offer new uses to reach a higher price level. A market study was helpful to find out, whether or not constructions from small diameter roundwood are accepted by the market, respectively which products and constructions are preferred. Several kinds of drying (normal kiln drying, high temperature drying, seasoning) have been tested. All partners carried out strength tests (bending, tension, pressure) to compare the results with strength properties of sawn timber. The final task is to create guidelines for future suppliers and customers of products and constructions made from small diameter roundwood to make sure, that the material is used properly and safely with respect to its properties.
