Risk assessment for bark beetle outbreak in the Nationalpark Limestone Alps
Abstract
A GIS-based estimation of the site and stand related susceptibility for bark beetles outbreaks combined with a topo-climatic model for bark beetle development will be used for the risk assessment of bark beetle epidemics in the national park Limestone Alps. The risk assessment will be used to establish a buffer zone at the bordering area of the national park, where protective pest measurements against bark beetles should be done in order to protect adjacent forest stands. Furthermore, the risk assessment can be used for decision making in pest control strategies in order to minimise or even to avoid protective measurements within the national park.
