European Training Course for Future Professional Trainers of Regional and Rural Development
Abstract
The project is developed in response to the dramatic economical and societal changes in rural areas in Europe, which are accelerated by the enlargement of the European Union. An underlying assumption is that rural areas need new facilities of (continuing) education, which transfer know-how and skills which in turn enable the inhabitants of rural areas to deal with the challenges of the mentioned structural changes. Life-long learning by means of adult education is an important stepping stone in this pursuit. Thus adult education can become a motor of regional development. New target groups of adult education (entrepreneurs, communities, networks) are a growing challenge for educational institutions. Teachers and trainers are key persons as they transmit not only facts but also values and attitudes to their students. The objective of the Project is to develop, test and evaluate an intensive training course on rural development for teaching professionals in any field with an importance for rural areas. Each course deals with the integrative approach of sustainable rural development in theory and good practice and also with networking as an instrument of regional development as well as useful tools in the management of processes of change. During the Project, supportive material for the participants is produced in the form of a virtual “Book of Inspiration” that contains ideas on teaching methods and practices. An additional objective of this project is to establish an international network that consists of the research institutions involved in this project and the participating teachers and trainers.
