River Pinka: Qualitative analysis of the LIDAR-DTM
Abstract
The river Pinka is situated at the border between Austria and Hungary. For this area an integrated and sustainable management plan for alluvial plains and diked rivers (INTERREG III B Project “SUMAD”) ought to be developed. Within the framework of this project topographic information is required, e.g. for the simulation of water levels based on hydraulic models. This information is attained either from digital terrain models (DTMs) or longitudinal profiles and cross sections. The hydraulic simulation heavily depends on the quality of the topographic input data. The project aims at the qualitative analysis of DTMs based on different raw data and calculated with different algorithms with regard to its further use as an input in hydraulic simulation models. Airborne laserscan data (LIDAR), which are given for the whole project area, are used as basic data. Several software products for DTM generation are tested and compared in terms of functionality and handling. After that eight sub areas are modelled using photogrammetric and tachymetric data in addition. Finally, the resulting DTMs are compared and data requirements are specified.
