Uncertainty of rock mass characterization in deformed & karstic terrain: implication to geotechnical modeling of Tekeze dam and reservoir (Ethiopia)
Abstract
Ph-D study: The hydroelectric power project in Tekeze valley in northern Ethiopia counts on an arch dam with a catchment area of 30.400 km2, which will be constructed in a steep gorge, extending over a distance of about 1,5 km. The results of the research work (geological-geotechnical field investigations, laboratory analysis etc.) will be essential to understand the effect of deformation, weathering and karstic phenomena in Tekeze valley. Defining the hydraulic characteristics of the karstic limestone sequence will be a base for understanding watertighness and stability of the dam foundation.
