Iodine accumulations in the carcass of fattening pigs
Abstract
According to experimental results from laboratory animals high dietary Iodine supply may produce significant accumulations of Iodine in tissues apart from the thyroid gland. This refers in particular to muscle and fat tissue being the major edible tissues derived from agricultural livestock production. The present project focuses on the verification of (presumed) Iodine accumulations in edible tissues under common feeding conditions of fattening pigs with special emphasis on efficacy of the Iodine source (iodate, iodide), as well as location, intensity, and species of Iodine accumulation.
