Effects of catch crops on yield and quality of subsequent crop potatoes
Abstract
The aim of the field trial was to assess the effect of catch crops on tuber yield, quality and sanitary status (black scurf and common scab) of a subsequent potato crop. The tested variants are: volunteer pea, common vetch + grass pea + volunteer pea, white mustard + California bluebell + volunteer pea, winter vetch + feeding rye + volunteer pea. Effects are expected due to the nitrogen fixation of the legumes and differences in biomass and nutrient content of the catch crop residues.
