Doctoral School Sustainable Development - Need for action to adapt the high Alpine trail network to climate change
Abstract
Many mountain trails and routes are affected by landscape alteration resulting from climate change. Main problems are the impassability of saddles and risk of rock fall due to glacier retreat, permafrost degradation and other climate-controlled processes. A safe and functional trail network is decisive for the appeal of mountain tourism. The intention of this project is to estimate possible impacts of climate change on the high Alpine trail network and to work out different possibilities for its adaptation in the form of scenarios.
