Silvicultural experiments
Abstract
Silvicultural treatments influence the stand development. Thus it is important to understand the interactions between silvicultural practices (tending, thinning, regeneration cuts, etc.) and their reponse to future stand development. For this purpose long term silvivicultural experiments have been and will be established at the experimental garden Knödelhütte, the expereimental forest of the University and in other parst of Austria. These permanent sample plots serve as demonstration plots for teaching and training (see Knödelhütte and experimental forest), but also for testing silvicultural practices and their impact onf forest ecosystem management and modeling issues.
