Communication and Change through Moving Pictures: Exploring Video as a Participatory Communication Tool for Developing and Disseminating Local Seed Messages in Bangladesh
Abstract
Failure of seed systems is one of the predicaments for agricultural development across the globe. On the other hand, failure of instrumental communication and change process to bring science and development to the marginalized segment of the population (e.g. resource poor women) has led to a growing diversity of approaches and methods for participatory communication processes. Experiences with participatory video indicate its potential role for promoting locally adaptive change processes. Few initiatives have been taken so far to systematically investigate participatory video development approach together with farmers. This research project follows a participatory action research (PAR) methodology to explore processes of participatory video making and its role in promoting farmers’ seed production practices. A mixed method approach of data collection is followed along videoing activities.
