Survey of the Danube Crested Newt (Triturus dobrogicus) in Lobau (Vienna, Austria)

Survey of the Danube Crested Newt (Triturus dobrogicus) in Lobau (Vienna, Austria) The current distribution of the Danube Crested Newt (Triturus dobrogicus) will be surveyed in Lobau, the Viennese part of the Nationalpark Donau-Auen, by a combination of several methods: direct observations, dipnetting and use of bottletraps. These investigations will provide a detailed assessment of the conservation status of this endangered species and foundations for protective and supportive measures. Occurrence of other amphibian species will also be recorded, with special reference to Bombina bombina, Pelobates fuscus and Hyla arborea.
