MUBIL III – Research, Subproject: Effects of different organic fertilisation systems in organic farming on plant parameters
Abstract
In this subproject, the research into the effects of a conversion to organic farming on the cropping system at the biofarm “Rutzendorf” which has been started in the year 2003 is continued. Within different organic fertilisation systems optimized nutrient cycles of stockless organic farming through inclusion of communal compost or utilization of lucerne in a biogas plant that supplies biogas slurry are compared with a stockless system with only lucerne green manuring and a system with livestock husbandry using farmyard manure. The effects of the different fertilisation on development, yield and quality of the crops are examined. The aim is to detect and assess extent and rate of changes concerning plant and soil properties with the conversion to organic farming and depending on different organic fertilisation systems. From an analysis of the results, conclusions will be drawn regarding practical recommendations, indications for a sustainable agro-environmental policy and for focusing further research. The agronomic assessments are complemented by a study on the impact of a hedge on crop yield of winter rye in an adjacent field. This trial shall reveal the complex effects of a hedge in the open arable landscape of the Marchfeld region. Besides agronomical and agro-ecological objectives, both studies aim at new insight into the context of climate change. The organisation of the overall project MUBIL III including organisation and coordination of the work of the partners and of the field trial management is performed within this subproject.
