Prerequisites for the implementation of a breeding value prediction for sheep
Abstract
Main aims within the project “Prerequisites for the implementation of a breeding value prediction for sheep” are: 1.) Detailed analyses of approximately 17,000 records regarding fattening and slaughtering performance of sheep 2.) Estimation of genetic parameters (heritability, genetic parameters) for traits in the breeding goal, focusing on fattening and slaughter but also reproductive traits 3.) Development of models for a BLUP breeding value estimation based on an animal model 4.) Detailed model calculations analysing applicable and improved breeding programmes 5.) Comparison of computer tomography and ultra sound, the methods being currently used for performance testing in meat sheep
