Scenarios for future energy supplies in Neumarkt im Mühlkreis
Abstract
The connection of spatial planning and energy supply is obvious in many sectors such as mobility or development of building land. Therefore, the „Austrian Energy Strategy“proposes a wide implementation of „energy related spatial planning“ among others measures. Particularly for (biomass based) district heating systems a special configuration of settlement patterns is essential. The project „Scenarios for the energy future of Neumarkt im Mühlkreis“ depicts options and scenarios for the potential extension of the existing district heating grid in Neumarkt im Mühlkreis. The scenarios are created mainly by using the method of „energy zoning“, a GIS-based tool that was developed at the Institute of Spatial Planning and Rural Development“ (IRUB) at the University of Natural Ressources and Life Sciences, Vienna. Given the energy consumption known on the level of single households, this method allows interactive and spatial analysis on the economic efficiency of district heating – both for the actual energy consumption and future scenarios aspiring different levels of energy efficiency. For gaining frameworks for the scenarios close to reality, workshops with local stakeholders will be held.
