Relationships between animal welfare hazards and animal-based welfare indicators
Abstract
This project aims at describiung relationships between animal welfare hazards and animal-based welfare indicators using dairy cattle as an example. Two different data sources generated from welfare assessment protocols will be used focussing on integument alterations and lameness. The link between the animal based measure(s) and hazard(s) will be investigated using model-based discriminant analysis and/or classification trees and random forests. Results will be used to identify an optimal set of indicators for the assessment of specific welfare aspects of dairy cows.
