Abstract
In order to store surplus engergy, air is compressed in large containers (d=30 m) during night. The heat produced by compressed air will be stored by large pile of clay balls (d=5 cm) similar to a silo. The wall pressure is important for the design of the containers. The primary objective of this project is to determine the mechanical parameters of the clay balls. We use large shear tests (50x50 cm) and small shear tests on clay balls.
