Survey of the juvenile fish fauna in the riparian areas of the Danube channel
Abstract
The Danube Channel is used by large parts of the Danube fish fauna as habitat, but is of limited use as juvenile and spawning habitat due to his riprap secured shorelines. Currently migration through the Danube Channel is not possible due to the lack of a fish ladder at the powerplant Nußdorf. The construction of such a ladder is planned for the near future. In this study five morphologically different areas will be sampled by electric fishing over two days. The focus is on shore structures to get a defined picture about the (juvenile) fish density in differernt structures and to compare different areas of the Danube Channel with each other. Through the selection of the sample stretches, it is possible to characterize the fish stocks in the shore area, and to provide a representative overall picture for the Danube channel.
