Biobatteries and biofuel cells: from fundamentals to applications

The objectives of BIOENERGY are the combination of education and training for the qualification of young researchers in the interdisciplinary research field of bioelectrochemistry. The project will develop miniaturized biofuel cells and biobatteries based on nanostructured surfaces in combination with optimized enzymes and improved immobilization techniques for improved stability, power output and applicability. Biocatalysts to be optimized comprise cellobiose dehydrogenase and other carbohydrate active oxidoreductases secreted by wood-degrading fungi.
