Abstract:
Nearly half of the accidents with tractors happened at ascending and descending. This problem was intensified by changes in the past decades by farm size and number of occupied persons on a farm. The goal of this work was to identify factors about documented accidents of ascending and descending. On basis of this facts past prevention measures should be further developed in order to decrease the accident frequency. In order to reach the target, a user questioning, an evaluation by current ascents and a manufacturer interview were aimed. For the analysis of accidents accident reports and data base information were used. 309 ascending and descending accidents in the period 2005 to 2008 from Bavaria were available. It could be stated by the user questioning that the stepping out accidents happened to 50% (47%; 8/9) when they backed out of the machine. Injured persons mainly slipped at the footboard and that under the involved machine parts the footboards were most frequently involved (65%; 13/20) into accidents. In the context of the evaluation of ascents with new tractors, ergonomic and safety deficits could be determinded, for which prevention proposals were compiled. In order to clarify the prevention proposals with the manufacturers, interviews with technical designers were accomplished. So that such accidents are better avoided in the future, preventive measures must be fundamentally differentiated between using tractors, which are in use and new tractors, which are in the construction. With tractors in the construction phase an improvement of the execution of ascents can be caused over supply by information for manufacturers. With the using tractors this can be arranged only over the farmers, who work with the tractors. Over clarifying information retrieval (behavior and constructional instructions for improvement) and financial supports for users, ergonomically unfavorable and uncertain ascents could be improved in practice.
