Under uniform environment and management conditions there were investigated eight different housing systems of the Austrian market, three without fixation and five with the fixation of the sow, they are different in size and design. The effects of these differences on work process related time requirements can be objectively determined by measuring of time requirements on the work element basis. Acquisition of this work element data is for a time keeper with a pocket PC and a time measuring software, for very flexible work processes with the help of the digital video technique possible. For pen or crate type related differences in time requirements are responsible the differences in area, door opening and closing devices as well as wall, feeder, crate and piglet nest design. In the baby piglet production is the average working time requirement per sow and year 4.17 working hours. For routine-, non-frequently and control work exists the situation that with increasing automating degree decreases frequently motor-stressed work processes and increases check processes. Work peaks are caused by non-frequently work in and around a pen or crate which must be done by two to four workers.
