Abstract:
Objective of the diploma thesis is a gender-sensitive evaluation of the organisation and equipment of a park from 2006 located on the Laubeplatz in Vienna’s 10th district Favoriten based on the methodical concept of landscape planning. The open space evaluation exemplifies the use of the “Planungsempfehlungen zur geschlechtssensiblen Gestaltung von Parkanlagen“ which are unique planning recommendations for gender-sensitive planning of parks developed by the city council of Vienna. The evaluation of the park is followed by an assessment of the planning recommendations. Basis of the diploma thesis is a survey of the open space and its different user-groups. The quality of the open space is tested on principles of everyday life and gender-equality. The focus lies on usability for men and women, young and old people in everyday life. Furthermore the genesis of the square is traced by examining historic plans. Planning concepts and values concerning gender relations are described. Results are planning recommendations for structural and spatial organisation of the square and ideas for further implementation of a gender-specific view in the planning of open spaces in Vienna.
