Socio-spatial baseline study for the area of the former Vienna Glacis
Abstract
The area of today's Wiener Ringstraße (Vienna ring road) has seen socio-spatial a checkered history ̶ as not only structural but also in particular social boundary of the city to the suburbs. For the development of an urban planning overall concept to the area of the former glacis ("Master Plan Glacis") different urban-morphological, urbanistic and open space planning baseline studies are elaborated. The aim of the studies is to develop the basis for decision making and decision criteria as well as possible scenarios for the development of the area of the former glacis to prepare the foundations for the urban planning overall concept. The socio-spatial baseline study has as objectives an assessment of the socio-spatial situation and potential of the research area as well as the development of a typology of different areas according to socio-spatial aspects. Based on the baseline studies different development scenarios are to be developed. From socio-spatial perspective, the strengths and weaknesses as well as the potential and risks of different development scenarios are examined and assessed.
