Abstract
The implementation of the gender mainstreaming strategy in the urban development and urban planning of the city of Vienna is already well established through numerous pilot actions and projects. This project aims to create a handbook for the implementation of gender mainstreaming in urban planning and development. The handbook summarizes the experiences of the city of Vienna with the implementation of gender mainstreaming at different scales and within different project settings. The methods and instruments applied in these projects are described in detail, compared and evaluated. Additionally, national and international best-practice examples are collected, their methodically and theoretically approaches and their transferability to the city of Vienna tested and model approaches are identified and documented in the handbook. The handbook development process and the handbook itself are intended to support a substantive discussion on the quality of planning in the city of Vienna and contribute to quality management by the development of criteria for planning processes and projects. The handbook contains approaches, methods, instruments and criteria for the implementation of gender mainstreaming in urban planning and urban development.
