Abstract
In the Tyrolean Calcareous Alps many forests have been degraded by historic utilization like forest grazing. In addition the natural regeneration fails frequently. It is unclear if hy ungulate densities, competition or nutrition is responsible for missing regeneration. In a pilot study in two stands of different degradation status these topics are studied. Investigations of forest nutrition, tree vitality and regeneration of mixed spruce-beech-fir forests are investigated and permanent monitoring plots will be established.
