Bioclogging von Funnel und Gate Systemen
Abstract
The purpose of the project was the development of a funnel and gate system for PAH-contaminated groundwater at a former manufactured gas plant. Different types of activated carbon as potential gate materials were tested for adsorption capacity and long term stability. However, the application was facing clogging by microbial growth on the adsorptive material. To circumvent this problem, research was performed to identify the cause for biomass accumulation. Investigations were focusing on parameters responsible for enhanced microbial growth in the groundwater. Nutrient levels, pH, redox potential, and possible substrates were measured in addition to aerobic and anaerobic colony forming units.
