Studies on S-layer proteins and secondary cell wall polymers from Bacillus stearothermophilus strains (GZ30.590/2-II/A/3/96)
Abstract
S-layers represent the outermost cell envelope component of many eubacteria and archaebacteria. S-layers are composed of identical protein or glycoprotein subunits which completely cover the cell surface during all stages of bacterial growth and dividion. The present research project aims at investigating whether a secondary cell wall polymer is responsible for the binding of the S-layer subunits from Bacillus stearothermophilus strains to the rigid cell wall layer.
