Golden jackals in Germany
Abstract
1. review - preparation of information about the golden jackal in Germany There is a need for general information on the golden jackal in Germany. This information should be collected, updated - i.e. supplemented by the latest findings - and compiled in a document. The review should serve the education of interested laymen, conservationists and hunters, but also meet a scientific standard. The information compiled and processed there can subsequently be made available to a broad public via the Internet in close cooperation between the FVA and BOKU (review as a basis). 2. golden jackal and fox Passive golden jackal monitoring in Germany and Austria shows that confusion between golden jackals and foxes is very common and that most people do not know or cannot apply the differences between these two species. The aim is to install game cameras in jackal occurrence areas for one year to take photo trap images of foxes and golden jackals under different conditions (age, season) at the same locations and in similar positions. From the results, differences between fox and golden jackal should be defined and highlighted in order to be able to communicate them with descriptive material (via homepages Austria and Germany and technical literature, association literature; hunting magazine or similar) Product: Final report and photos
