WildAustria - wildlife portal of Jagd Österreich
Abstract
At the end of the pilot project, an internet-based game recording system will be established that will collect species-specific information on the distribution and density of all game species occurring in Austria. The database will be able to be used to produce annual statistics and distribution maps, which will eventually be made publicly available on a website and summarized in a written report. The information to be collected annually in the future can then be used in the medium term to calculate population trends for Austria or smaller coverage units (province, district). This will be made possible by interactive tools on the website itself for everyone. In addition to the general interested public, authorities (e.g. the Federal Environment Agency in the context of the reporting obligation according to the Habitats Directive), nature conservation associations or scientific institutions can thus also access the data obtained, but with restrictions regarding the level of detail (e.g. courtship sites). The input of data to the platform should only be possible for selected persons (e.g. district hunting offices, game ring leaders) to ensure high data quality. They can upload the data to the platform via an app (on a PC, tablet or smartphone). In the medium term, it is planned that every person authorized to hunt can also upload his or her data to an intermediate platform via this app, which will then be checked from there by the selected persons and released for the database.
