Theory of Cutting of Agricultural Raw Materials
Abstract
Cutting is an important process during harvesting agricultural biomasses. New materials allow new types of cutting tools and new crops in particular for use as renewable raw materials confront cutting systems with new characteristics of herbal materials and new requirements on the cut material. Additionally the use of control and feedback control systems will provide the possibility to adjust for example the position of knives or the cutting speed to the characteristics of the herbal material automatically. The energy requirement for handle the friction between parts of the cutting device and the cut material has beside the energy requirement for the intrinsic cut through process an essential influence on the energy efficiency of the entire cutting process.
