Ramsar EcoNaTour: Touristic zoning concept March-Thaya-Wetlands
Abstract
The Morava-Dyje-Floodplains in the border region between Austria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic is characterised by high biodiversity and a long list of protected area designations such as Natura 2000 and Ramsar. The municipalities along the former iron curtain try to increase nature-based tourism to boost their economic development. Touristic activites may be an opportunity to raise people´s awareness for biodiversity, but may also pose threats to sensitive habitats and species. In this bilateral project (AT-SK) sensitive as well as suitable areas and activities for nature-based tourism will be identified in a participative process. The result will be a zoning plan as a basis for future development, embedded in a long-term vision for the regional development of the area.
