Wood for automotive applications
Abstract
The forest wood chain is one of the most important branches in Austria. On the other hand the Austrian automotive industry has been strongly developed during the last decades. Due to economic and ecologic reasons the automotive industry dries to reduce the own weight of vehicles and to increase the usage of bio-based materials. State-of-the-Art engineered wood materials are high performance materials and are characterized by low density. Engineers of the automotive industry have no knowledge concerning material properties and processability of bio-based materials. In the trainings programme we provide basic knowledge to automotive engineers. On the other hand R&D managers of the wood industry are attending the trainings programme. Together with the engineers of the automotive industry a link between the two branches will be identified.
