Inspection and RISK monitoring with high performance drones (UAS / UAV)
Abstract
The research project RISKMON aims at planning and successful implementation of partly automated inspections of civil structures, natural hazards, existing tracks and sections as well as extraordinary events by means of high-performance drones and sensors (UAS/UAV). The project will show the entire path from data collection and evaluation to integration in infrastructure management systems based on partly automated processes. Terrain and building survey using e.g. laser scanning, thermographic imaging with photogrammetric evaluation, 3D – models and 2D plans are a technical standard. The advantages of the use of industrial high-performance drones are the high data acquisition capacity and specific adaptable equipment on a universal platform providing fast and flexible deployment at low costs. The conventional approaches form the basis for survey and condition assessment of A) 2x structures as well as 2x protective structures in coordination with the client. According to the requirements of the tender, the entire workflow is completely covered (AP1-AP3). The approaches to the detection and minimization of B) natural hazards form the basis for the detection of 2x natural hazards (e.g. avalanches, landslides) by means of industrial highperformance drones. Furthermore, this includes 1x dropping of sensors in dangerous areas with low accessibility and 1x avalanche blasting (AP1-AP3). The routines of C) linear surveys are the basis for the survey of 1 x section (3 km) each from ÖBB and ASFINAG. The evaluation and deviation analysis is carried out by at least 2x flying the route with digital deviation analysis as well as expert analysis. The deployment plans for D) exceptional events form the basis for the planning and implementation of missions for 1x reconnaissance (e.g., accident); 1x detection and defense against unauthorized persons (e.g. railway track), and 1x defense and identification (Jammer, thermographic imaging) of unauthorized persons intruding in a secure stationary installation or site of operation, e.g. by means of drones (AP1-AP3). The scalability and application possibilities of the AUS / UAV are ensured by means of an evaluation and optimization of the concept for these semi-automated inspection processes (AP4). The Proof of Concept, Application, Efficiency and Integration in RISKMON is provided together with all results from the test cases (AP5) from A to D). With the results report, the contracting authorities are given an instrument and mobile Platform in order to use the technologies shown in a meaningful and efficient manner. The added value for the clients is, on the one hand, the high-precision acquisition methods and, on the other hand, the holistic concept and implementation, from data collection, evaluation and analysis to integration into their infrastructure management systems. For the practical feasibility of the results, it is also essential that the RISKMON research project completely clarifies the entire process from data acquisition and processing to data provision and storage by a competent team with unique references in all fields of the offered content.
