Abstract
The standards of animal husbandry in Austria in conventional agriculture are mainly determined by the Austrian Animal Protection Law. To what extent livestock in Austria shows better standards as provided by the Animal Welfare Act will be investigated in the context of public catering. Furthermore, there is a gap of knowledge regarding the origin of fresh or processed meat consumed in Austria. Besides the Austrian AMA seal of approval, in Austria and the EU only clear origin provisions in fresh meat of bovine animals are given (origin of pig meat or poultry are just delivered voluntarily). The analysis of the origin of processed meat ( such as sausages and minced meat) is even more challenging.
