Analysis of spatial structures with respect to storm water management - case study wastewater association Traisen
Abstract
In the area of the Wastewater Association Traisen, heavy stormwater events in the past years repeatedly caused flooding in the settlement area. The predicted increase in heavy rainfall caused by climate change is more likely to cause flooding if no countermeasures are taken in the catchment area. The subject of the project is the investigation of the current situation in the Wastewater Association Traisen from the point of view of integrated urban water management and spatial planning. The aim of the research project is the development of a method for urban water analysis of the adaptation and decoupling potential of spatial structures. This builds on data collected by engineering offices of the drainage effective areas, and extends them to spatial data on building types, land use, land availability and ownership structure. Based on this, the adaptability of structural types to different rainwater management measures and the impact assessment of these measures will be analyzed. The project will develop a methodological approach that can be applied across the whole association. It will be applied and tested in selected sub-basins depending on the available database. The goal is to identify priority action areas to improve the flood problem. In a sub-catchment area of the association area, an integrative spatial strategy of urban drainage and different development scenarios will be developed in workshops with political decision-makers, stakeholders and project participants Finally, the methodology will be discussed with all members of the Wastewater Association in order to ensure the transferability of the results. Project work is carried out in cooperation with local engineering offices and municipalities, which provide the necessary data.
