Consumption of local food Post-COVID19
Abstract
Regional food consumption is a main goal of multiple stakeholders aiming at fostering sustainable consumption patterns on the one hand, and supporting local economies on the other. In the aftermath of the COVID crisis, consumer perceptions of the Austrian food sector might have changed as well as the crisis might have affected their preference for local (compared to imported) food. This study emprically investigates differences Pre-COVID and Post-COVID among Austrian consumers using data from a previous study in 2019 and collecting fresh data from 2020. Based on these empirical insights, the study aims to (a) create better understanding of crisis-related consumer behavior in the agri-food-sector, and (b) support decision makers in their efforts to increase consumers' intentions to buy local.
