High-Alpine Precipitation Correction: Analysis and evaluation of quantitative and spatiotemporal approaches to INCA high mountain precipitation correction.
Abstract
The 'Einsatzoptimierung Wasserkraft' (deployment optimization hydropower ) of VERBUND Energy4Business AG operates the conceptual precipitation-runoff model COSERO for inflow forecasts within the framework of its forecasting system and uses the INCA product as model input data. In previous studies, which were carried out in the high alpine headwater catchment of the Kölnbrein reservoir operated by Verbund, it was shown that precipitation as a model input variable is often strongly underestimated. In this study, therefore, a spatiotemporal and quantitative correction of the precipitation conditions in this area is to be carried out explicitly. For this purpose, the following five research and work packages (FAPs) are processed: FAP1: Preparation of satellite-based snow depth maps and physically-based snow cover simulation with SNOWPACK/Alpine3D. FAP2: Development of precipitation correction approaches using satellite-based snow depth maps to improve hydrological modeling with COSERO FAP3: Evaluation of snow depth maps and simulated reservoir inflows based on different recording times of remote sensing data and different regions FAP4: Analysis of precipitation deficits of the INCA product in summer and evaluation of possible seasonal corrective measures as well as analysis of corrections for heavy rain events FAP5: Synthesis to find the most optimal precipitation correction possible.
