Development and improvement of soil biological methods.
Abstract
Soil biology is a young science which produced a large amount of knowledge in a few decades. Despite this dynamic situation, many of the methods used are antiquated and make modern research difficult. The long-term project 'method development' intends to provide basics predominantly for applied work (e.g. analysis and monitoring of anthropogenic soil disturbance). Some recent research: quantification of the confidence of mesofauna sample data (estimation of abundance and species number), development of a composite sampling technique which increases data confidence of soil mesofauna, co-development of a technique for the estiamation of soil ciliate (Ciliophora) abundance, quantification of the volumetric bias of standard soil corers (used for mesofauna sampling).
