WLS Report 57: Risk Analyses and protection concept in the Catchment Area of Sattelbach, on behalf of the Forest Technical Service¿s authority of Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland
Abstract
The Sattelbach with a catchment area of approximately 30 km¿ in the jurisdiction of the torrent and avalanche control, flows into its receiving stream, the ¿Schwechat¿ in the municipality of Wienerwald (district of Baden, Lower Austria). During floodings the Sattelbach overflows his banks due to sediment aggradation in the channel or because of too small discharge sections. This flooding causes damages in the partially densely populated and agriculturally used valley area. By means of thorough analyses of the flood- and sediment- problems the remaining areas of the valley should be used for protection measures in an optimal way. To design these, technical measures as well as landuse planning, a risk analysis including the water- and the sediment-regime will be executed. The outcome of this analysis will be a basis for a general defence concept.
