Satellite image analysis for mapping areas under illicit cultivation
Abstract
The project is based on a collaboration between the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime – Illicit Crop Monitoring Programme (ICMP) and the Institute of Surveying, Remote Sensing and Land Information (IVFL). The scope of work is divided into two parts. The research activities comprise investigations about the application of available remote sensing satellites and image processing techniques for land cover mapping within the illicit crop monitoring program. Research is performed on a test area in Myanmar. The second part focuses on the provision of expert advice during an internal review mission of the illicit crop monitoring activities in Colombia. The IVFL will review the methodologies and techniques developed for coca and opium poppy cultivation monitoring.
