Abstract
Abundances of European hares in Upper Austria’s „Mühlviertel“ are low compared to other parts of Austria, obviously due to unfavourable climatic and geological conditions. In an experiment we tested whether enrichment of landscape structure and reduction of potential predators are able to affect female fecundity and juvenile survival rates. The results will help to decide whether these game management strategies can help to increase hare numbers in suboptimal habitats.
