Management of Water and Fish Resources in Burkina Faso (MFBF)
Abstract
Burkina Faso requires standardised assessment of the water quality and ecological status of rivers based on fish assemblages on one hand and proper water and fisheries management on the other. Within an ongoing PhD thesis dealing with Fisheries and Fish migration in Burkina Faso demand on further research education and application on this issue became evident. The purpose of this preparatory project is to prepare a full project in order to strengthen institutional capacities in management, research and education in the sphere of water and fisheries in Burkina Faso. The objective of the full project is to evaluate and adapt assessment and management methods for Burkina Faso and to improve its ability to detect human and hydromorphological pressures, e.g. land use, continuity disruptions. The results will be applied to education and will have practical relevance for food supply and health care.
