Developing agrobiodiversity-based strategies: alleviation of micronutrient and protein deficiencies among small holder households from banana growing regions of East Africa.
Abstract
In course of this project, scientists, agricultural, rural community and health outreach organizations develop strategies using agrobiodiversity for improved access and consumption of diversified diets targeting Vitamin A Deficiency (VAD), Iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) and protein deficiencies among children aged 6-59 months from rural banana-dependent smallholder communities in Central Uganda and Northwestern Tanzania. The contribution of Boku to this project includes all tasks connected with food analysis, including the development of methods for assessing in-vitro bioavailability for Vitamin A and iron.
