Abstract:
The objective of this thesis is to analyse a remediation concept for a abandoned industrial site of a former refinery where the mobile oil phase is removed from the soil by means of hydraulic measures (3 remediation wells). Wells produce a draw down cone of groundwater hence oil is able to flow to the wells. Specific skimming devices in the wells pump the oil to the surface. The first sections the author uses basic equations to calculate the oil flowing rate to the wells. Increasing of the delivery rate and subsequent measurements of the delivery rate and the oil and water table height enabled to find an ideal operating point. An approach to accelerate the oil delivering rate by means of intermittently operation of oil pumping had to be cancelled because of technical problems. The final sections of this thesis estimate the duration of the remediation concept.
