Plate heat exchangers are widely used in district heating transfer stations, but operated only to a fraction of their maximum dimensioning most of the time. This thesis examines part-load performances of such a plate heat exchanger and its resulting heat transition coefficients with regard to creeping flow. Also, comparisons are made with various Nusselt correlations found in literature. Practical tests were performed at a specially designed test station for this purpose. The results show that no creeping flow occurred during any of the test runs. Even at very low flow rates (<10% of the design flow rate), a relevant heat transfer rate could be measured. Furthermore, theoretical Nusselt correlations were found that well reflects the practical test results for heat transition coefficients. However, no universal models exists. The best fitting models were originally designed for turbulent flow in smooth circular tubes in this case.
